Dr. Ryland Edwards


Dr. Edwards is originally from Smithfield, VA.  He received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech in 1958, and in 1962 he received his DVM from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and then began practicing veterinary medicine in Tampa, FL.  He was a Captain in the Air Force Veterinary Corps from 1962-1964.  Dr. Edwards also did a teaching internship at the University of Georgia.  He has been practicing here in Smithfield since 1966.  Dr. Edwards is married, has two sons and five grandchildren. On their farm live their dog Violet, several cats, cows and horses. His special interests include client communication, gardening, fishing, conservation and wildlife.


Dr. Sharon O’Rawe



Dr. O’Rawe is originally from Hillsville, VA. She has a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech and received her DVM from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.  She and her husband have two daughters,  three horses, a dog and a cat.  Dr. O’Rawe’s  special interest in veterinary medicine is nutrition. Outside of work she enjoys endurance riding.



Dr. Amy Bowman

Dr. Bowman received her undergraduate degree from Miami University and her DVM from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her special interests include preventive & internal medicine. She lives in Smithfield with her husband, Steve and son Connor.  They also share the household with two dogs, Cy and Sammy, and two cats, Mittens and Jerry.  She enjoys boating, traveling and reading.



Dr. Erica Clark



Dr. Erica Clark is a 2005 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.  She did her undergraduate work at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.  Dr. Clark is originally from Lexington, Kentucky and had previously been practicing at a small animal clinic near Indianapolis, Indiana.  Her veterinary interests are soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. Dr. Clark is approved to provide stem cell therapy as a therapeutic option for osteoarthritis. Information about this cutting edge treatment / technology can be found at www.vet-stem.com.  Dr. Clark is passionate about preventative medicine and understands that pets are important four legged members of our families. She lives in Smithfield with her husband Benjamin and three children.  She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and anything outdoors.  She and her husband are avid Auburn football and Kentucky basketball fans.  They try to get back to Auburn for at least one game every year.


Dr. Kristin Carow

Dr. Carow received her undergraduate degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg and her DVM from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Blacksburg VA.

Dr. Carow spends her time away from the hospital with her husband and children hiking and kayaking. She also enjoys cooking, sewing and watching football, especially the Hokies. The family has four cats, Emerald, Domino, Freckles and Frisco.





Dr. Adam Henderson was born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech in 2007 and continued on in Blacksburg receiving his DVM from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Dr. Henderson returned to Hampton Roads practicing in Virginia Beach for the past 5 years.  Currently, Dr. Henderson is very honored to be serving as the President Elect of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine alumni board.  He has wanted to be a veterinarian his whole life, as evidenced by choosing that role in kindergarten career day at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.  Dr. Henderson is very interested in sports rehab, dentistry, internal medicine, and surgery.  He is married to his wife Dr. Katherine Henderson (also a veterinarian) and they share their home with a Boykin Spaniel named “Piper” and a Labrador Retriever named “Samuel Adams”.
