COVID 19-Update
 We are open!
However, with the changing dynamics of this pandemic our protocols have to be changed temporarily.  We are available for wellness, surgery and sick appointments but we are no longer allowing anyone other than staff to enter the clinic.

Please call us from the parking lot upon arrival.  Treatment staff will discuss the reason for your visit over the phone and then come outside to admit your pet for their visit.  Please be sure to have your pet on a secure leash and have all small dogs/cats in carriers.

The door to our clinic will be kept locked at all times.  For medications that you may need to pick up, please try to allow 48 hours if at all possible. Once we have contacted you to say the medicine is available for pickup, please call us from the parking lot so that we may bring the medication and place it in the pick up basket that will be located by our front door.  We are accepting payments via credit card or care credit over the phone only at this time.  Cash and check will not be accepted.

Our online pharmacy is an excellent option at this time and will ensure your medications are delivered to your door.

All efforts are 100% being implemented as a means of protecting YOU and your loved ones and our staff.  Our goal is to maintain availability no matter how things progress, but in order to do so we have to make sure our staff stays healthy and protected.

These new guidelines are subject to change as it is difficult to predict the next few weeks to months.
Please stay healthy and safe!

Welcome Dr. Hogge
We would like to introduce you to our newest veterinarian
Dr. Zack Hogge. He will begin working with us in March.
Dr. Hogge grew up in Smith field and attended Virginia Tech for both undergraduate and veterinary school. Upon completion of veterinary school, he performed a one-year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at a private referral hospital in North Carolina.  Outside of work, he is an avid waterfowler with his Labrador Retriever, enjoys carving waterfowl decoys and spending time on the water with his friends/family.

Welcome to
The Oaks Veterinary Clinic

Compassionate, professional care for your pet!

The Oaks Veterinary Clinic was established in 1966 by Dr. Ryland B. Edwards Jr. and was named after the family farm, The Oaks in Smithfield.
In more than fifty years of practicing veterinary medicine and surgery, the clinic has expanded to its current size which includes five veterinarians, three licensed veterinary technicians, and other support staff all working to provide compassionate and quality care for your dogs and cats.
In order to improve medical and surgical facilities and allow for growth of the veterinary practice, the original veterinary facility was remodeled and expanded in 1980 and 2000.
We now offer drop off services for appointments.
